"The decline in intensive care needs is encouraging, but 6,248 patients in the ICU are higher than the initial maximum capacity in these units in France," Salomon said.
But that number was the lowest since April 1 and has decreased by 1,000 patients since its peak on April 8 with 7,148 patients in the ICU. Long before the Coronavirus spread, France had a capacity of 5,000 hospital beds with a ventilator.
At present a total of 17,920 people have died from the Coronavirus, meaning the number of deaths has increased by 4.4 percent in the last 24 hours. This figure is classified as decreasing after experiencing an increase in the previous two days.
With that figure, France became the fourth country in the world with the most deaths after the United States (US), Italy and Spain. These four countries have a combined mortality rate of nearly two-thirds of the total global deaths which now exceeds 140 thousand people.
