Trump & Europe Doubt China, Corona Appears from Wuhan Lab?

The United States (US) seems to have the support of the international group of intergovernmental economic organizations Group of Seven (G7), to investigate details about where the coronavirus originated.

After a videoconference on Greater China transparency over the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the G7 also explicitly questioned China's transparency.
Previously, Trump who had underestimated this pandemic claimed to be investigating where the original virus originated. Including whether that has infected more than 2.1 million people actually comes from laboratories in Wuhan City, Hubei Province.

This was obtained from US intelligence information which indicates that there is a possibility that the virus did not originate from nature. "We are conducting a very thorough investigation into this dire situation," he was quoted as saying by Reuters yesterday.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who temporarily replaced the position of Prime Minister Boris Johnson who was infected with COVID-19, told reporters that there was no "business as usual" with China.

"We must ask difficult questions about how it emerged and how the virus could not be stopped before," Raab said, quoted by AFP on Friday (4/17/2020).

French President Emmanuel Macron also warned not to be "naive" just because he believed China had handled the plague well.

"Obviously there are things happening that we don't know about," he said in an interview with the Financial Times.

Besides them, Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo also said China should be more transparent about their trial laboratories.

"We are conducting a full investigation into everything we can learn about how this virus can spread, spread to the world and now has created so many tragedies, so many deaths," Pompeo told Fox News.

COVID-19 disease first appeared in December 2019 in Wuhan, China was allegedly transmitted to humans through the meat market that slaughtered exotic animals, including bats.

The Washington Post and Fox News reported great suspicion that the virus did not originate from the exotic animal market, but from a sensitive laboratory in Wuhan that studied bats, animals that had caused the SARS outbreak in 2003.

G7 itself consists of countries with developed economies. Namely Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, England, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Meanwhile, China has denied the allegations. On his telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping said blaming China for the pandemic was unfavorable.

According to the Xinhua news agency run by the Chinese government, Xi called the effort to politicize the pandemic "undermining international cooperation". Putin also criticized "the efforts of some people to tarnish China" over the pandemic.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian quoted the World Health Organization (WHO) as saying there was no evidence the virus was produced in a laboratory. "Many world-renowned medical experts also believe that the so-called laboratory leak hypothesis has no scientific basis," Zhao said.

In addition to attacking China, Trump has previously carried out an attack on WHO by cutting off US funds for organizations belonging to the United Nations (UN). Trump said the WHO made a mistake because it pushed the wrong information about this virus.

According to Trump, the WHO's mistake from the start was that the virus was not contagious and did not need a travel ban. He criticized the WHO's decision to oppose travel restrictions from China as dangerous.

Unfortunately, not all countries agree with Trump's attack on WHO. German Chancellor Angela Merkel voiced "full support" for WHO in the Group of Seven talks.

"Merkel stressed that a pandemic can only be defeated with a strong and coordinated international response," said his spokesman, Steffen Seibert.

Until now, the coronavirus has produced 2,182,058 positive cases, with 145,516 deaths, and 547,155 cases successfully recovered globally as of Friday (4/14/2020), according to data from Worldometers.
