Nearly Two-thirds of US Citizens Think Trump is Slow in Handling Corona Pandemic
Washington - Nearly two-thirds of US citizens consider President Donald Trump to be too slow in taking big steps to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic.
According to the latest poll released by the Pew Research Center as reported by the AFP news agency on Friday (4/16/2020), 65 percent of respondents said Trump was slow in responding when cases of COVID-19 disease were first reported in other countries.
Trump initially underestimated the Coronavirus despite later recognizing the virulence of the deadly virus.
The Pew survey was conducted April 7-12, involving 4,917 adult Americans.
The survey results show that 52 percent of respondents cited Trump's comments about the Corona outbreak making the situation look better than it actually is.
It is known that Trump often talks long in daily press conferences with medical experts about the Corona outbreak.
In an earlier press conference, Trump said that the US had passed the peak of the Corona cases and mentioned that his government's aggressive strategy had succeeded.
Even at a press conference on Thursday (16/4) local time, Trump recommended the slow reopening of economic activity. This was stated by Trump when the number of deaths of COVID-19 patients in the country continued to increase. In fact, according to data calculated by Johns Hopkins University, as many as 2,569 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. This is the highest daily mortality rate in the world since the Corona pandemic struck.
The Pew survey shows that 73 percent of US citizens consider the worst will still occur in terms of problems faced by the US due to this outbreak.
